Former Baliguda MLA Karendra Majhi Passes Away, Odisha CM Pays Homage

Bhubaneswar: Former MLA from Baliguda constituency, Karendra Majhi, passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Majhi, who was a two-time MLA from the constituency, winning the elections in 2004 and 2009, breathed his last on Sunday late night.

Karendra Majhi was a prominent leader from the Kutia Kondh community and was the first postgraduate from the community. Apart from being a politician, he was also a writer and authored three books in the Kui language.

The news of Majhi’s demise sent shockwaves across Kandhamal district, where he was a prominent figure.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, BJP state president Manmohan Samal, and several other leaders paid their respects to the departed leader at the Capital Hospital, where a somber atmosphere prevailed.

Majhi’s mortal remains will be taken to the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Monday morning, where he will be given a state sendoff. All MLAs will pay their tributes by offering floral wreaths.

Later, his body will be taken to the BJP state office, where leaders and dignitaries will pay their last respects. CM Mohan Majhi is also scheduled to visit the BJP office.
