Bhubaneswar: Two-time MLA from Bhubaneswar Madhya, Bijay Mohanty, passed away at the age of 60. He was residing in the ex-MLA guest house. In the morning, Mohanty was found unconscious and immediately rushed to Capital Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“We received him dead. After receiving him, doctors examined him physically and conducted an ECG. Then, he was declared dead. We will inform the police regarding the body being received. As per protocol, we will conduct the postmortem,” said Capital Hospital Superintendent Dhananjay Dash.
According to reports, Mohanty had been suffering from cardiac ailments for the past few years. Mohanty was elected to the State Assembly in 2009 on a BJD ticket from Bhubaneswar Madhya constituency and re-elected in 2014. His body will be taken to the Assembly, where he will be given a guard of honour before cremation, informed MLA Babu Singh.
“Bijay Mohanty was not just an MLA to us, but more of a brother. A very simple and honest politician, Mohanty struggled hard for the rights of common people. I have a close association with him. His demise is a personal loss for me. We are making arrangements to take his mortal remains to the Assembly for the last respect. Later, his family members will decide where he will be cremated,” Babu Singh said.
