Bhubaneswar: Former Chairman of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the first Mayor of the Bhubaneswar Municipality Dr Jagannath Mohapatra passed away at his Shahid Nagar residence in the capital city on Wednesday. He was 84.
According to reports, Dr Mohapatra was suffering from a number of health issues.
Dr Mohapatra served as the BMC Chairman in 1997. In fact, the BMC was formed during his tenure. Dr Mohapatra was also the Vice President of the All India Mayors’ Association.
He has performed his duties as a doctor in many hospitals including the Capital Hospital. He was also the founder of Jagannath Hospital.
Dr. Mohapatra’s admirers and the general public are paying their last respects at his residence in Shahidnagar.
