Bhubaneswar: Madhaba Chandra Acharya, former clerk-cum-dealing assistant at Derabis block in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, who was charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance in a case under Sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe in a cheque from a complainant for releasing the first installment for construction of Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) house allotted to him, was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack, and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years.
In the case of a default, he is to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 and undergo further rigorous imprisonment for six months more for the offence.
The Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the dismissal of Madhaba Chandra Acharya from service following his conviction.
