Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Balasore on Wednesday sentenced Manohar Behera, former Secretary of the Osanga Service Co-operative Society under BBCC Bank Ltd., Khaira Branch in Balasore district, to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 50,000 in a corruption case.
According to an official press release, Behera was convicted for misappropriation of government funds by manipulating official records. He had earlier been charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Sections 409 and 477-A of the Indian Penal Code.
The conviction was pronounced by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority to initiate the stoppage of Behera’s pension.
