Bhubaneswar: The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance here today convicted and sentenced former Asst Sub Inspector (ASI) of Sarankul Police Station in Nayagarh district Sashikanta Satapathy to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for one year for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant in 2014 under section 7 of PC Amendment Act of 1988.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 on Satapathy, and in default of payment of the fine, he has to further undergo RI for a period of 2 months.
The court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and to pay a fine of Rs 4,000, and in default of payment of the fine, he has to undergo further RI for a period of 3 months for the offence under section 13 (2) of the PC Act of 1988.
Both sentences are to run concurrently.
