Bhubaneswar: A former data entry operator was convicted and sentenced to one year of rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case in Ganjam.
Samir Kumar Pattanayak, Ex-Data Entry operator (disengaged from service) working at the officer of the BEO of Jagannath Prasad in Ganjam was fined of Rs.3,000.
A special vigilance court in Ganjam ordered him to undergo two months more imprisonment in default of payment of fine.
He was arrested in 2015 for accepting bribe from a teacher to make online entry of purchase bills of utensils related to MDM programme and expenditure on Mid-Day Meal incurred by him.
The Court further sentenced him to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs.2,000. In default of payment of fine, he would undergo further rigorous imprisonment for one month for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Smita Manjari Mallick, former vigilance Inspector of Berhampur division had investigated the case.
