Bhubaneswar: A Special Judge (Vigilance), Berhampur, on Thursday sentenced Tutika Vasudev Rao, former Drugs Inspector of Bolangir, to three years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1.5 lakh after convicting him in a disproportionate assets (DA) case registered by the Odisha Vigilance.
Rao, who has since retired from service, was charge-sheeted under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income during his period of service.
After a detailed trial, the Vigilance Court found Rao guilty of accumulating wealth beyond his lawful income and pronounced the sentence accordingly.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance authorities announced that they will move the competent authority for stoppage of Rao’s pension, as per applicable service and vigilance rules governing convicted public servants.
The case was investigated by Odisha Vigilance as part of its continued crackdown on corruption and accumulation of illegal wealth by government officials. With the court’s verdict, the conviction adds to the list of public servants penalised under the anti-corruption law in the state.
