Bhubaneswar: A retired Assistant Block Education Officer from Jajpur was convicted today by the Special Vigilance court in Cuttack, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a school teacher. The court sentenced Ramakanta Sethy to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine.
The charges against Sethy stemmed from a case filed by the Odisha Vigilance under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding a bribe to regularise the teacher’s absent period. Following the conviction, Sethy was taken into custody to serve his sentence.
The Odisha Vigilance has announced plans to move the competent authority to stop Sethy’s pension payments, citing his conviction.
