Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Cuttack on Thursday sentenced Lalit Basant Ghadei, former Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) of Ender Gram Panchayat under Derabis Panchayat Samiti in Kendrapara district, to four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 1,000 for demanding and accepting a bribe.
Ghadei who has been currently disengaged from service was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for soliciting and accepting a bribe from a complainant in exchange for releasing the security amount for a Cement Concrete road project in Ender Gram Panchayat.
Following the conviction, Ghadei was taken into custody and sent to jail to serve his sentence.
