Former Head Clerk Gets Three Years RI For Misappropriation Of Govt Rice

Bhubaneswar: A retired Head Clerk from the office of BDO in Gurundia Block of Sundargarh district has been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 20,000 by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh.

Biharilal Tajan was found guilty of misappropriating over 1,094 quintals of government rice by manipulating official records and falsifying the Rice Stock Register.

The Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will move the competent authority to stop Tajan’s pension benefits following his conviction. This case is part of Odisha Vigilance’s ongoing efforts to tackle corruption, having registered over 200 criminal cases and arrested 181 government officials in 2024.
