Bhubaneswar: Subash Chandra Das, former Head Clerk in the Office of the Executive Engineer, Roads & Buildings (R&B) Division at Rourkela in Sundargarh district, was convicted on Tuesday in a bribery case by the Special Vigilance Judge, Sundargarh.
The court sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for four years and imposed a fine of Rs. 15,000.Das, who had retired from service, was charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting a bribe from a contractor to release his security money related to a construction work.
He was found guilty under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.Following his conviction, the former Head Clerk was immediately sent to jail custody to serve the sentence.
Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority for the stoppage of pension of Subash Chandra Das.
