Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Phulbani on Monday sentenced Saroj Kanta Ray, former Principal of Government ITI, Phulbani in Kandhamal district, to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a disproportionate assets (DA) case. Ray, who is currently serving as a Lecturer in Electronics at Government Polytechnic, Dhenkanal, was also fined ₹50,000 by the court.
Ray was convicted under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code, following a charge sheet filed by Odisha Vigilance.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced it will approach the competent authority to initiate the process of Ray’s dismissal from government service.
Ray was found to be in possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income during his tenure as the Principal of Govt. ITI, Phulbani, triggering the Vigilance investigation that culminated in his conviction.
