Bhubaneswar: A junior Engineer at the office of the District Project Coordinator of Sarva Sikhya Abhijan in Nayagarh was convicted and sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment by a special vigilance court in Bhubaneswar in connection with a bribery case.
The second Additional Special Vigilance judge also imposed a fine on Rabinarayan Barad, former technical consultant, a fine of Rs 10,000. In default of payment of fine, he would undergo further four months rigorous imprisonment for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.
The Court further sentenced him to one year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.10,000. In default of payment of fine, he was directed to undergo two months further rigorous imprisonment for the offence U/s 7 PC Act, 1988.
Both the sentences are to run concurrently, the court clarified.
Rabi Narayan Barad was charge-sheeted by Vigilance in Bhubaneswar U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 P.C. Act,1988 for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.10,000 from a school teacher for processing file and submission of utilisation certificate towards the release of funds for the construction of Ragadigada Project Primary School in Nayagarh.
Former vigilance Inspector S.K. Panigrahi had investigated the case while special public prosecutor Prabir Patnaik conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
