Bhawanipatna: The wedding of two former Maoists, Kesab Veladi (Ramdas) and Kalamdei Majhi (Gita) was solemnised at a temple on the premises of Reserve Police Ground here on Friday.
Ramdas was an Area Committee Member (ACM) of the outlawed CPI (Maoist)’s KKBN division. A native of Bijapur in Chhattisgarh, Ramdas surrendered before the Kalahandi police on February 18, 2020.
Similarly, Gita had surrendered before Kalahandi police on January 5, 2016, and was rehabilitated under the R&R policy of the State Government.
Ramadas was given Rs 3.98 lakh and Kalamdei Rs 2.98 lakh as per the Government’s rehabilitation policy. Both of them were given training in vocations of their choice.
After coming to know about their wish, the police facilitated their marriage. In the function held today, DIG Rajesh Pandit, SP Saravana Vivek, CRPF Commandant Biblab Sarkar, and senior police officials were present.
Family members of the bride and bridegroom participated in the function along with police, CRPF, and media persons. On this occasion, the State police appealed to Maoists to shun violence and join the mainstream.
