Bhubaneswar: Former Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) and Women and Child Development (WCD) minister Kamala Das passed away last night while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack.
Her nephew confirmed the death news.
She was 79. She was suffering from lungs-related ailment.
Kamala, a three-time MLA from Bhograi constituency was rushed to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar 15 days back after being diagnosed with lung infection.
She was later shifted to a Cuttack-based private hospital and was on ventilator for the last three days. She breathed her last night.
She was elected to State Assembly thrice in 1995, 2000 and 2004. She had successfully contested elections in 1990 as Janata Dal candidate, again in 1995 as Janata Dal candidate, and in 2000 as BJD candidate.
Following her death, eminent personalities have started visiting her at the hospital to pay homage to the departed soul.
Her mortal remains will be taken to her hometown Bhograi where her last rites will be performed as per the Hindu traditions, sources revealed.
