Bhubaneswar: In a setback to the Biju Janata Dal in Bhadrak district, Prayaskanti Samal, son of senior BJD leader and former minister Prafulla Samal, has resigned from the primary membership of the party.
Prayaskanti Samal submitted his resignation letter to party president Naveen Patnaik, citing health reasons as the cause for his decision.
In a statement, Samal expressed his gratitude to the party for the opportunities he received during his tenure. “BJD has given me an identity. I left the party for health reasons. I have got due respect from the party during my time in the party. Due to health problems, I don’t want to remain in direct politics,” he said.
Notably, Prayaskanti Samal’s father, Prafulla Samal, a former minister and influential BJD leader, has chosen to remain in the party.
The reasons behind Prayaskanti Samal’s decision to resign while his father stays on have sparked curiosity, given Prafulla Samal’s prominent position in the party.
