Bhubaneswar: Former Minister and senior BJP leader Raghunath Mohanty on Saturday resigned from the primary membership of the party. He sent his resignation letter to State BJP president Manmohan Samal.
“I do hereby inform you that I and my family members tendered resignation from the primary membership of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with immediate effect,” the letter read.
At a press meet, Mohanty said that BJP leaders in Balasore have weakened to such an extent that it is impossible to work with them. So, he decided to resign from the party.
“There is a vast difference of ideologies between BJP and me. So, it became impossible for me to remain in the party anymore,” Mohanty said.
“I will consult my relatives, well-wishers and supporters before deciding my future course of action,” he said while replying to a query where he would make a comeback to BJD fold.
In 2019, Mohanty had joined the saffron party after quitting BJD following his suspension from the party. The BJD had suspended him after he was arrested in a dowry torture case slapped by his daughter-in-law.
Mohanty, was elected to the State Assembly five times from Basta in Balasore district. He had held different portfolios in Naveen Patnaik cabinet.
