Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has expelled former MLA and senior party leader Pravat Ranjan Biswal from the party with immediate effect for indiscipline and anti-party activities. The expulsion order, issued on February 28, 2026, cites Biswal’s actions as detrimental to party discipline.
Biswal, a State Council Member of the BJD, had been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the party’s recent Rajya Sabha candidate selections. He had reportedly expressed his concerns directly to party supremo Naveen Patnaik and even warned of distancing himself from the party if his concerns weren’t addressed.
The move underscores the BJD leadership’s intolerance for public dissent, especially ahead of crucial elections. Biswal’s expulsion is seen as an attempt to quell rebellion and project unity within the party.
