Bhubaneswar: The Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Sundargarh, on Wednesday passed an order allowing the Odisha Vigilance to take accused Prasanta Kumar Rout, Addl. Sub-Collector, Nabarangpur, on remand for 5 days, with effect from June 28.
Accordingly, Rout was taken on remand on Wednesday for further investigation. The court has remanded him to jail custody till July 7.
Rout was forwarded to the Court of Special Judge Vigilance, Sundargarh, on June 24 for possessing disproportionate assets (DA) worth Rs.5,21,09,659 (506% of his known sources of income), unearthed by Odisha Vigilance during searches conducted at nine locations on June 23.
A case (No.15/2023) has been registered against Rout and his spouse in this connection at the Rourkela Vigilance police station under Sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. During house searches, movable and immovable assets worth crores of rupees were unearthed in the name of Rout and his family members.
The unaccounted assets recovered and seized from Rout’s possession include:
- One double-storeyed building measuring a plinth area of 1942 sqft and located at HIG-115, Kanan Vihar in Bhubaneswar.
- Five plots including four in a prime area of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and one benami plot at Umarkote in Nawarangpur district.
- Total cash to the tune of Rs 3,02,30,800 was recovered.
- Bank and Insurance deposits over Rs 92.34 lakh (including Rs 38.64 lakh deposits in two benami accounts).
- Two four-wheelers (Innova and Maruti Swift) and one two-wheeler (Honda Activa) worth approx. Rs 37 lakh.
- Gold and silver jewellery and household articles worth over Rs 27.27 lakh.
Besides, Rs 87 lakh was spent on the medical education of Rout’s daughter, and the educational expenditure of his son was also found. An investigation of the case is underway.
