Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Chief Minister and nine-time MP from Koraput Giridhar Gamang along with his son Shishir quit the BJP on Wednesday.
Gamang had joined the BJP in 2015 and announced his resignation from the primary membership of the saffron party at a press meeting today.
In a letter to BJP national president JP Nadda, Gamang wrote that he decided to quit the party as he was unable to discharge his political, social and moral duties towards the people of Odisha during his tenure at BJP.
Shishir also mentioned in a letter to Nadda that he was resigning from the primary membership of the party because he was unable to do much for the welfare of the tribal community and the youth while remaining in the BJP.
Incidentally, both Girishar and his son Shishir had abstained from the BJP state executive committee meeting organised in the capital city here on Sunday.
Gamang said that will join the Bharat Rastra Samiti (BRS) along with his son Sishir at a function in Hyderabad in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. The senior Gamang may lead BRS in the 2024 elections in Odisha.
It is worth mentioning here that Gamang’s controversial vote in the confidence motion toppled the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government in 1999. He voted against the motion after taking over as the Chief Minister of Odisha.
