Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader and former Odisha minister Samir Dey passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack. Dey has been ailing for quite some time now and was admitted to a private hospital in CDA in Cuttack on November 1.
Dey was admitted to ICU as he was suffering from pneumonia. According to reports, he was suffering from breathlessness and fever following a severe lung infection.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo and Pravati Parida expressed their condolences on the demise of the party leader.
Samir Dey was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly thrice. He won three consecutive terms from the Cuttack City Assembly seat on BJP ticket.
Samir Dey won the 1995, 2000 and 2004 Assembly elections. From 2000 to 2004, he was the Minister of Urban Development in the coalition government led by the then Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. He was also the Minister of Higher Education from 2004 to 2009.
