Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha State Commission For Women (OSCW) Chairperson Jyoti Panigrahi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday along with her husband Saroj Kumar Panigrahi. She quit the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on April 11 after a three-decade-long association with the regional party.
Senior BJP leaders Samir Mohanty and Basant Panda inducted Jyoti and Saroj Kumar Panigrahi into the BJP at the party office in Bhubaneswar.
Resigning from the primary membership of the BJD, Jyoti had cited ‘current asymmetry in the party’ and ‘lack of access to the party supreme’ as the reasons behind her move.
On the other hand, Saroj Kumar Panigrahi is the former Chairperson of Odisha State Cashew Development Corporation. He also quit the BJD alleging that he was ‘sidelined’ and ‘neglected’ in the party.
