Bhubaneswar: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee (93), the first non-Congress Prime Minister to complete a full term in office, had breathed his last on August 16 this year after a prolonged illness. However, he has left behind a rich legacy which is being remembered today on his birth anniversary.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted, “Humble tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his Birth Anniversary. Atalji was an outstanding Parliamentarian, exceptional poet, excellent orator and one of the greatest leaders of modern India.”
After his demise, Patnaik had eulogized, "I will always cherish my association with late Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji, especially as it was during my initial years in public life. He embodied a unique combination of grace, idealism and tolerance in politics," said the Chief Minister. He had said Vajpayee had a large heart with a special corner for Odisha-love that is equally reciprocated by the people of the state.
On December 24, a day ahead of the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna recipient, PM Narendra Modi released a commemorative Rs 100 coin in his honour.
