Bhubaneswar: A retired police officer in Keonjhar district was convicted and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of four years in a corruption case.
Keonjhar special vigilance judge also directed Kalucharan Swain to pay a fine of Rs 3,000 and in default of payment, he would undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of two months.
The court further awarded him three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,000. In default of payment, he would undergo two months further rigorous imprisonment for the offence U/s 7 PC Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently, the court stated.
Swain, a former OIC of Baria police station in Keonjhar was arrested in 2014 for accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000 from a complainant to remove his parents’ name from a dowry case.
