Jeypore: The Crime Branch has arrested former Sub-Inspector Shiv Shankar Sahu in connection with the death of notorious criminal Akash Mehuria in 2017.

Sahu was arrested while attending a Ganesh Puja in Kalahandi district. He was later produced before a court in Jeypore.

Akash Mehuria died after falling from his vehicle while being chased by the police. His mother filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission following which a case had been registered against Sahu and other police personnel, including former Town Police IIC Tapan Rath, SI Rajesh Baliarsingh, and SDPO Rajendra Saini.

Sahu, who was the investigating officer in the incident, was charge-sheeted and subsequently suspended from duty. After being produced before the magistrate, Sahu was sent to Jeypore jail.
