Bhubaneswar: Former Rajya Sabha member and a five-time MLA from Kesinga Dhaneswar Majhi breathed his last at Kesinga Hospital in Kalahandi district on Wednesday. He was 83.
Born on July 5, 1941, Majhi’s interest in politics began during his student days which prompted him to join the Janata Dal.
His illustrious career spanned over four decades, with notable stints in both state and national politics.
Majhi served as a Rajya Sabha member from 1978 to 1984 and was elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Narla and Kesinga constituencies multiple times (1971, 1974, 2000, 2004, and 2014). He had recently quit the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Throughout his career, Majhi remained committed to serving the people of Odisha, earning respect across party lines. His demise has left a void in the state’s political landscape.
