Bhubaneswar: A former Revenue Inspector (RI) has been convicted and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for demanding and accepting a bribe. Gunanidhi Nayak, former RI of Kumurisinga Circle under Angul Tahasil, was found guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The case dates back to when Nayak allegedly demanded and accepted a bribe from a complainant in exchange for sending a favourable verification report in a mutation case. The Odisha Vigilance laid a trap and charge-sheeted Nayak, who was later convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul.
The court sentenced Nayak to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine. Following the conviction, the Odisha Vigilance will now initiate proceedings to stop Nayak’s pension, as per rules.
