Berhampur: A special vigilance court in Berhampur has convicted Jogi Behera, a retired Tax Collector from the Berhampur Municipal Corporation, of misappropriating pension funds.
Behera was found guilty of embezzling money by falsely claiming disbursements to deceased pensioners under various pension schemes.
The court has sentenced Behera to undergo two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine.
The conviction comes after Behera was charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and sections 409, 468, and 477-A of the IPC.
Following the conviction, the Odisha Vigilance will move the competent authority to stop Behera’s pension benefits.
