Boudh: Forest Department officials busted a parrot smuggling gang with the arrest of four persons and rescued 15 parrot hatchlings and three turtles from their possession, on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off from the Bhopal Wild Crime Control Bureau, a team of officials led by Forest Range Officer Arjana Gomanga under the supervision of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Debapriya Kampa chalked out plans to nab the accused. As per the plan, forest department officials contacted Kishore Sahu, a resident of Kanuai under Boudh police limits to buy parrot hatchlings. When Kishore reached the place as per their earlier conversation to sell parrot hatchlings, Forest department sleuths arrested Kishore and seized three hatchlings from his possession.
During interrogation, Kishore revealed the names of his acquaintances involved in the smuggling of parrot hatchlings. Based on the information, Forest Department officials arrested Jogeswar Dehuri of Saleising village, Balaram Jena of Sudasahi and Ayush Sahu of Khandadhipa under Rairakhol police limits and produced in Boudh court. As many as 12 parrot hatchings and three turtles have been seized from their possession.
Meanwhile, Forest Department sleuths have decided to continue their raids to nab more individuals involved in the gang.
