Berhampur: Police today arrested four wildlife poachers and seized two deer horns and two guns with huge ammunition from them in Golanthara of Ganjam police.
The arrested persons are Purna Gouda (35) alias Chian of Singabadi, Sankar Pradhan(55)of Medinipur, Abhi alias Bhalia Mallick(40) of Betajhari and Brudaban Mallick (45), Makar Mallick of Kanheiput in Ganjam district.
Police also seized a country made single barrel guns, 125 live cartridges, 200 empty cartridges, 10 kg Lead splinter balls, 250 gram small lead splinter balls, Gun powder, lead bar used in making the splinter balls, one head torch light used for poaching, Equipment used for assembling the cartridges and two deer horns with skull.
Based on a reliable tip regarding movement of Chian who is a close associate of antisocial Kuna Behera (who is behind the bars) in Tamana Reserve Forest armed with deadly weapons, a team from Golanthara police station headed by Sadar SDPO conducted raid. The accused persons tried to escape into the jungle. Police team apprehended Chian Gouda along with his other associates.
They have been arrested and forwarded to court.
Accused Chian and Shankar Pradhan were earlier arrested in several cases by Digapahandi and Golanthara police. Chian was involved in attacking the Police in 2021.
The investigation is in progress and involvement of other persons is being investigated, police said.
