Bhubaneswar: A 37‑year‑old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a private de‑addiction centre in Uttamapur village, Cuttack district.
The deceased has been identified as Soumyaranjan Das of Jatni.
Das was admitted to the rehab centre at Uttamapur village within Cuttack Sadar police limits two months back. He was allegedly murdered by fellow inmates during a heated altercation on Diwali night. Four persons have been detained in this connection.
Preliminary investigations revealed four inmates were trying to flee the centre amid the festivities. When Das raised the alarm, the would‑be escapees turned violent, pinned him down and strangled him.
The rehab centre’s employees discovered Das unconscious in the morning, rushed him to hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
Police are awaiting autopsy results to confirm the exact cause of death.
