Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Odisha from June 30 to July 5, with several districts likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.

According to the IMD, a low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, triggering this weather system.

Going by the IMD prediction, four districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda, are likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall today. These districts are under orange alerts.

Besides,  14 Odisha districts, such as Bargarh, Balangir, Subarnapur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Nabarangapur, are under a yellow warning. These districts are likely to witness heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, fishermen are warned against venturing into the sea due to rough conditions in the Bay of Bengal. Also, the state government has directed disaster response forces to stay on standby for emergency rescue and relief operations.

The regional weather office has advised residents of these districts to monitor weather updates, follow official advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
