Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths today arrested four government functionaries in two separate cases while accepting bribes in Koraput and Sundergarh districts.
Revenue Inspector (RI) Bijay Kumar Bagh and peon Rohit Kumar Padhy at Lamtaput Circle under Machhkund Tahasil in Koraput have been apprehended for accepting undue advantage (bribe) of Rs.10,000 from a complainant for demarcation of his land.
The complainant informed the Vigilance over phone through Toll Free No.1064. Accordingly, the plan was chalked out by the Vigilance officials to nab both the accused persons.
Based on the complaint, a trap was wherein accused Bijay and Rohit were nabbed by the team of Odisha Vigilance in the office room of RI while receiving the amount.
The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused and seized in the presence of witnesses. Both hands wash as well as pant pocket wash of Padhy gave a positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance of bribe money.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential house of Bagh at Lamtaput and the office room and also the residential house of Padhy at Machkund.
In this connection, Koraput Vigilance registered a case under Section 7 PC Act, 1988.
In another operation, forest guard Sanatan Patra, and watcher NarendraKalo of Dharanidharpali Nursery under Bonai Forest Range in Sundargarh have been apprehended accepting bribe of Rs 7,000 from a complainant to facilitate the release of the seized two-wheeler of her husband.
Based on the complaint, vigilance filed a case and laid a trap accordingly. Both the accused were caught red-handed inside the Nursery while taking the bribe.
The anti-graft agency seized the entire bribe money in the presence of witnesses.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the native house of Patra at Banki Bazar under Chandiposh police limits in Sundargarh and his accommodation at Dharanidharpali Nursery.
