Bhubaneswar: As many as four persons died and 18 persons sustained injuries in three separate road mishaps at Hinjili, Jajpur and Boudh.
According to sources, a father-son duo was returning home from his relative home when a tipper hit the bike they were travelling in at Baruhan Square under Sadar Police limits in Jajpur district on late Friday night.
The deceased have been identified as Sainda Jena and his son Muna of Sathiatagiri village under Similia panchayat.
Sainda died on the spot while his son was rushed to the Jajpur district headquarters hospital. Muna, however, succumbed to injuries soon after being taken to the hospital.
In another tragic mishap, two persons died and 15 others were injured when the pick-up van they were travelling overturned. Sven persons out of the 15 injured were rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in critical condition.
The mishap took place when as many as 100 Danduas, who perform Danda Nacha, were going to Khetri Berhampur in two pick-up vans. One of the vans carrying 25 Danduas overturned as it lost its balance at Sompur Square under Hinjili police limits in Ganjam district in the wee hours of Saturday..
The deceased have been identified as Sanyasi Nayak of Kaliaguada village and Deepak Nayak of Tamanada Nayak.
It is suspected that the driver might have experienced drowsiness which led to the accident.
In yet another mishap, a truck driver and his three sons were critically injured when a pumpkin-laden truck was hit by an unknown vehicle near Lunibahal under Puruna Cuttack police limits in Boudh district on National Highway No 57 on Friday night.
The truck driver and his sons were rushed to Boudh district headquarters hospital.
According to sources, the trick driver and his three sons collected pumpkins from Nabarangpur and were going to Bhubaneswar to unload pumpkins.
