Bhubaneswar: A tragic incident occurred near Puthiyangadi harbour in Kannur of Kerala, where four migrant workers from Odisha suffered burns in a fire accident. The incident happened on Friday morning when the workers were trying to cook food in their room.

According to the police, the fire broke out around 6:30 am due to a gas leak from a cooking cylinder. The workers, who were natives of Balipatapur in Khurdha district of Odisha, were rushed to the Government Medical College Pariyaram in Kannur for treatment.

The injured workers have been identified as Siba Behera, Subas Behera, and another individual from the same locality. The police said that the gas stove was allegedly not turned off properly the previous night, leading to the leakage of gas into the room. When the workers tried to light the stove in the morning, the room caught fire.

The victims are currently undergoing treatment at the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital. The incident has highlighted the importance of safety measures in migrant workers’ quarters.
