Dhenkanal: In a shocking incident, three members of a family died due to asphyxiation after inhaling smoke at a brick kiln at Kamalanga village under Kantabania police station in Dhenkanal district on Saturday.
All the deceased are from Chhattisgarh. The labourers set fire to the brick kiln and slept on it. They were rescued in critical condition in the morning and rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Police reached the spot and seized all the bodies for post-mortem.
As per findings of the preliminary investigation, it is suspected that all the members slept atop the structure and died due to suffocation, police said.
Following the incident, palpable tension prevailed in the areas where locals gathered there alleging that the brick kiln was running illegally.
