Jeypore: Koraput police have arrested four men for allegedly posing as police personnel and extorting money from a ginger-laden truck’s driver in Semiliguda late last night.
The incident occurred around 11.45 pm near Semiliguda under Pottangi police limits, when the accused — identified as Mantu Puria, Bijay Takri, Subhakant Nayak, and Ram Kuldeep of Semiliguda — intercepted the truck while travelling in a car. Claiming to be police officers, they forced the driver at gunpoint to divert the vehicle to a secluded spot.
The miscreants allegedly assaulted the driver and looted ₹8,000 before attempting to flee. A patrolling team from Pottangi police arrived at the scene, chased the suspects, and overpowered them.
Police seized a gun, six mobile phones, cash, and a car from their possession. All four were produced in a local court today, said Pottangi IIC Pravat Behera.
