Berhampur (Ganjam): Police on Wednesday arrested four persons for begging at different places by impersonating themselves as physically challenged in Baidyanathpur police station area in Ganjam district.
The arrested persons identified as Ajya Kumar (28), Anil Kumar, Mero (32), Jaswant Kumar (20) are residents of Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, two of them were begging at Kamapalli Traffic chhak pretending themselves as deaf, dumb and physically challenged. Out of suspicion, police detained them. During interrogation, they disclosed that they are physically fit, but they posed themselves as physically challenged to earn money.
They also revealed that they were staying beside NH-16 and two other associates were begging for money at TATA Benz Chhak.
Later, a team of police rushed to TATA Banz chhak and spotted them begging on the street. Police arrested them and forwarded them to court.
“As prima facia evidence U/S- 417/419/420/34 IPC is well established, the accused persons were arrested and forwarded to court. Further verification and investigation is going on regarding their previous character antecedents and whether they are involved in any robbery or burglary cases,” police said.
