Koraput: Baipariguda police in Koraput district have arrested a person who allegedly posing as an official of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) was providing fake driving licences (DL) to gullible persons against payment of hefty amounts in the tribal areas of Kundra, Lamtaput, Nandapur and Baipariguda.
The accused has been identified as Mahendra Khemundu (29) of Bariniput village under Jeypore police limits.
The matter came to light when some people of Majhiguda village suspected their driving licenses obtained through Khemundu to be fake after checking the same online. Accordingly, they lodged a complaint at the Baipariguda police station in this connection.
Based on their complaint Baipariguda police investigated the matter and arrested Khemundu and forwarded him to court.
“One Narayan Mali had lodged a written complaint at Baipariguda police station that a youth introducing him to be working at the RTO office in Koraput had promised to make his driving licence and had taken some money for that,” informed Arup Abhishek Behera, SDPO, Jeypore.
Behera said that later Mali came to know that the licence provided to him was fake.
The SDPO informed that in the course of the investigation police came to know about the youth from Bariniput who was allegedly cheating people by issuing fake driving licences.
“We raided his place and have seized laptops, printers, scanner and several other incriminating documents,” the SDPO added.
