Bhubaneswar: A fraudster posing as National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Director was caught by locals while duping and handed over to Balakati police in Bhubaneswar.
The accused has been identified as Smith Sethi.
As per the complainant, Dambarudhara Biswal, Sethi came to his house yesterday and started inquiring about his farm, lands and domestic animals in his possession. When asked, Sethi identified himself as Director of NABARD and demanded the details.
Biswal, who had very recently retired from the Animal Husbandry department, found Sethi’s behaviour suspicious. Biswal asked the Sethi to produce his ID card, which the latter denied and hastily tried to escape. Biswal alerted the locals who foiled his escape and alerted the local police.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Sethi is a regular imposter. The police are trying to ascertain his motive. Notably, a few years ago Sethi had also posed as a vigilance officer, informed police sources.
