Puri: Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Sunday said that the state government will soon distribute free Mahaprasad to the devotees in the Puri Jagannath Temple. Keeping the number of devotees visiting the Srimandir daily, the government will spend Rs 14-15 crore annually on free Mahaprasad.
At the same time, the minister has appealed to devotees to donate freely. He said that in terms of the number of devotees coming to the temple, Rs 14 to 15 crore will be spent every year. “We have requested everyone to donate freely and free distribution of Mahaprasad will be done with the support of the devotees,” the minister said.
The state government has decided to launch the scheme as whenever devotees return home after the darshan at Puri Jagannath Temple, their families and neighbours eagerly wait for the Mahaprasad.
Regarding inconvenience faced by devotees due to heavy crowd inside the temple, Harichandan said the darshan process will be streamlined and made smooth from the month of Margashira – the middle of November, this year.
