Bhubaneswar: A fresh cyclonic circulation has formed over north Andhra Pradesh and adjacent coasts on Wednesday that will develop into a low-pressure area in west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal on Thursday. Rainfall activity is likely to increase in Odisha under the influence of this low-pressure area, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday. According to the weather office, south Odisha districts are very likely to experience heavy rains during the next two days. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in 12 districts on Friday.
Heavy rain will occur in five districts of south Odisha from September 9 to 11. Similarly, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati on Thursday. The IMD predicted 70 mm to 110 mm of rain in various places of these districts.
Heavy rain may also occur in some places of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal on Friday. Several areas in coastal Odisha are likely to receive moderate rainfall on Saturday and Sunday.
A yellow alert for heavy rain has been issued in nine districts for Saturday – the Ganesh Puja. Special warnings have been issued to Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Angul and Dhenkanal.
