Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity with lightning over various districts of Odisha from August 31 to September 3. A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal around September 2, which may exacerbate the weather conditions.
The districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nawarangpur are under an orange warning, indicating that they should be prepared to take action due to the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning, accompanied by gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph.
Other districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, and Rayagada, are under a yellow warning, indicating that they should be aware of the potential for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds.
The IMD has warned fishermen against venturing into the sea off Odisha and Andaman & Nicobar Islands for the next five days due to rough sea conditions. Residents in affected districts are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions against possible weather disruptions, including strong winds, rainfall, and lightning
