Bhubaneswar: A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over east-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal on August 29 triggering an active wet spell across Odisha for four days from Wednesday, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department forecasted in its mid-day bulletin today.

Yellow Warning (Be Aware): Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Balasore. Thunderstorms and lightening are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh during this period.

Orange warning (Be Prepared to take action): Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada.

Yellow Warning (Be Aware): Heavy Rainfall(7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nuapada,
Nayagarh, Khurda, and Puri. Thunderstorms and lightening are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nuapada,
Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada.
Fishermen Warning: Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coasts, during August 30 and August 31.
Impact and action suggested:
- Temporarily water logging likely in low lying areas and underpass road.
- Poor visibility during intense spell of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas.
- Some damages to kutchha Road and possibility of wall collapsed of vulnerable kutchha houses. Some damages to vegetables and horticultural crops likely.
- Avoid staying in vulnerable kutchha houses. Advisory on traffic congestion may be followed before leaving for your destination.
- Arrangement for drainage of excess water from nursery bed, preparations for sowing of paddy crops, seed collections may be done.
