Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance today arrested Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Gaisilet police station in Bargarh district Birabar Bhagat for amassing disproportionate assets which stand at 179% higher than his known sources of income.
Bhagat was arrested and forwarded to Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur as he could not account for satisfactorily for possession of disproportionate assets.
Vigilance has registered a case against Bhagat and his spouse under section 13(2) read with 13(1)(b)/12 P.C Amendment Act, 2018.
During house searches, the Vigilance has unearthed the following movable and immovable assets in the name of Bhagat and his family members one double storeyed building located at Anguliapada, under Ainthapali police limits in Sambalpur district worth over Rs 77 lakh; one farmhouse with boundary wall with trees planted at Kabarapali mauza in Sambalpur worth about Rs 21 lakh; lands in Sambalpur town and Bonei, Sundargarh worth over Rs 1.11 crore; bank, insurance deposits and investment in debentures worth approx Rs 16.68 lakh; gold jewellery approx 166 gm; cash Rs 79,460; 2 four wheelers (Maruti Swift Dzire) worth Rs 13.65 lakh; and 2 two wheelers & household articles worth over Rs 9.41 lakh.
Further investigation in the case by the Vigilance is underway.
