**Gajapati:** The news of deaths in a landslide here due to torrential rains triggered by Cyclone Titli that shook the State yesterday, was confirmed last night when as many as 15 bodies were recovered by the rescue team over the course of 24 hours.
Confirming the news a senior police said, “Fifteen bodies have been recovered amongst which post-mortem of thirteen has been completed and two bodies are yet to undergo medical examination.”
The rescue team consists of Gajapati SP Amulya Das, SDPO Thakur Prasad Patra and platoons of NDRF and fire personnel.
The three-member ministerial committee consisting of Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty, Water Resources Minister Niranjan Pujari and Energy Minister Sushanta Singh is currently reviewing the flood situation in Gajapati following which they will provide a detailed report to the government. According to that report, the ex-gratia for the deceased’s kin will be announced, said sources.
Reportedly, 16 persons from five families of Barghar village in Gangabada Panchayat under Rayagad block’s Garabandha police limits here had taken shelter inside a cave in a hill in the fear of the severe cyclonic storm ‘Titli’.
However, the hill suffered a landslide on Friday night due the torrential rains and as a result several persons got crushed under the debris. As per reports, the landslide has caused major damages in Barghar and some other nearby villages.
