Bhubaneswar: In a surprise raid, Rourkela police have busted a gambling den operating from a hotel in the Steel City today and arrested 12 persons.
The police have also seized over Rs 12.27 lakh in cash, two cars, five motorcycles, 15 mobile phones and playing cards from the den which was operating from Hotel M N International on Gurudwara Road very close to the Plant Site Police Station.
The arrested have been identified as Subhakanta Behera, Saroj Agarwal, Raju Agarwal, Pitr Khess, Lakhan Minz, Dinesh Jaiswal, Paresh Sahoo, Sudhir Kedia, Shankarlal Sahoo, Dharmendra Sharma, Nagarmal Agarwal and Bijay Behera, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a posse of policemen led by Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) Asim Panda raided the gambling den operating in the hotel and nabbed the gamblers on the spot.
According to the police, the accused have been booked under Sections 269, 270, 34 of the Indian Penal Code and Orissa Prevention of Gambling (OPG) Act.
