Malkangiri: The police on Thursday arrested three ganja smugglers who were using police uniform and a beacon on their vehicle to transport the contraband from the district. The accused were identified as Raju Kharifa (24), Rajiv Kumar (26), and Akash Kumar (26) belonging to Maujipur and Saristabad in Patna district and Muzaffarpur in Bihar.
According to reports, a team from Orkel police station had mounted surveillance on Balimela Chowk – Dyke 3 main road near Khadikajhudi, on the basis of a tip-off. The cops intercepted an Innova car bearing Bhubaneswar registration which was found to be fake.
On further investigation, the police were able to make out that the vehicle was originally registered at Delhi RTO. Besides, the occupants of the vehicle were conversing in Hindi, which raised suspicion. During a search, the policemen stumbled upon more than 100 kilograms of ganja from the car.
The trio revealed they were transporting ganja from Nakamagudi to Bihar. They were arrested and forwarded to the court on Friday, said IIC Orkel, Soumendu Tripathy.
