Ganja Worth Rs 1 Crore Seized From Truck In Koraput, 1 Arrested

Koraput: The police have seized ganja weighing 1,001 kilograms from a truck which was transporting ginger from Similiguda to Ludhiana. The truck driver-cum-owner has been arrested in this connection.

The ganja packets were concealed inside ginger stuffed into gunny bags. The seized contraband is worth Rs 1 crore, Jeypore SDPO Arup Abhishek Dash said. Further investigation is on to trace the buyer and supplier of this material.

On the other hand, the accused truck driver-cum-owner said that he got an order to ferry ginger from Similiguda to Ludhiana while he was stationed at Rourkela.

“I received Rs 10,000 as advance payment for the consignment. I was unaware of the illegal material present in it,” he added.

The truck involved in this case had come to Barbil from Chandigarh carrying X-ray machines. From Barbil, the driver got an order for transporting ginger from Odisha to Ludhiana, the driver added.
